2025 KD Kart Series Guidelines
                                                                           2025 KART-UM DOWNS SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIP
1. PIT AREA
Karts are not allowed to be driven in the pit area.
Please dispose of all trash in the proper containers. Please place large items in dumpster or beside trash cans.
Do not stuff the barrels with large items.
The pit area is congested & safety is a priority.  Be considerate of other racer’s karts, tow-vehicles & equipment.   No games involving throwing of objects in lower pit or tech area.  No riding bikes, tricycles, scooters, etc. in high traffic areas or down the lanes towards the gate.

2. PIT PASSES
Everyone entering the hot pit area must have a pit pass.  This is mandatory and will be enforced!
Anyone without a wristband pit pass must leave the pit area immediately.
Racers are responsible for their pit crew & guests.
Minor participants (17 years & under) must be signed in by one parent/guardian.
No laps shall be taken by a driver without registering.  Infraction will result in suspension for the day.

3. SAFETY EQUIPMENT
All karts, drivers and safety equipment should be able to pass safety inspections before entering the track.
Brake pedal must be secured to the kart with safety wire or cotter keys.
A SNELL 2015 or newer full face helmet, neck brace, gloves and heavy jackets are mandatory.  Helmets are  required to be checked for correct safety certifications.
SFI20.1 rated chest protector is mandatory for all drivers in classes where maximum age is 12 or lower.

4. CONDUCT
All drivers shall conduct themselves in an orderly manner.
Physical violence or verbal abuse of any individual, official, participant, spectator, etc. will not be tolerated.
Drivers are responsible for their pit crew and guests.
Penalties for misconduct will be charged directly to the driver, resulting in being disqualified from the event and if problems continue, suspension from the series.
Verbal abuse will be a cause for immediate ejection including loss of points from an event and possible suspension from future series events.
Arguing with race officials or track workers or any unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.  This includes
everyone – drivers, pit crews and spectators.
Consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden for all racers, pit crew and guests until all races have been completed for the day. Then, all local & state laws concerning consumption of alcoholic beverages are in effect.
If a kart stops on the track during a race and it cannot be restarted, crew member will be directed by a track official to take a starter out to restart stopped kart.  Only allowed during the warm-up laps of a heat or feature race.
No crew member is allowed to enter the race track under any circumstances unless given clearance by the Race Director or Grid Steward.  This will result in the racer being DQ from all classes for the day.

5. RACE & POST-RACE PROCEDURE
Sandy Hook Speedway is a WKA Master Track & follows the rules outlined in the WKA Tech Manual unless otherwise specified.
Timing tag should be properly mounted and functioning during practice, qualifying and racing.  Each kart must have a dedicated timing tag. If a racer has more than one kart, each kart must have a dedicated timing tag. i.e. if a racer has 3 karts, driver must acquire 3 timing tags.
Racers need to be ready, on the grid, as qualifying round time will start when the first kart takes the track for each class.  You may not re-enter the track during qualifying once you exit.
If racer posts no time due to not having timing tag on kart, the racer will be scored as DNS for that time on track. This will be enforced for heat & feature event races. It is the racer’s responsibility to make sure kart is equipped with timing tag when on track. Otherwise they will not be scored.  (If hand-scoring is done, that is only for race direction reference and not final position scoring.)
All decisions concerning scorekeeping, suspensions, disqualification and interpretation of series rules by the Race Director/Series Director are final.
Head Flagger or the Race Director has the right to offer a complete restart, if he/she feels it is necessary.
Head Flagger starts the race. The green flag will be given when the front row karts are keeping a reasonable pace and the front row karts are even with each other. It is the responsibility of the karts behind them to keep up and stay in formation. If the front row accelerates prior to the green flag, the Flagman may call a false start.  If the front row fails to receive the green after two (2) attempts, the field can be restarted using a box start format.  After one (1) attempt at a box start, the risk of the front row being moved back one row and the second row being moved to the front is possible.
No karts may pass w/ intent to advance position prior to crossing the start finish line.  Possible black flag penalty.
All drivers will pass over scales to check weights. Drivers are responsible for knowing class weight guidelines.
All other technical issues will be addressed by a filed protest (following section 10) or by the Race/Series Director.
If any requirements are not met, the driver will be disqualified from related session, race or event.
Random and unannounced tech inspection may occur.  Racers will be notified at scale and will immediately proceed to tech area.
If driver is instructed in the scale area to report to Tech Area, driver/team must do so in an orderly manner.
Kart may not be taken back to driver pit area, if done could result in a penalty.
Only the driver & one team member may be in the Tech Area.
If driver fails to report to Tech Area when instructed, disqualification will be made.

6. FLAGS
Green – used to start the race
Yellow & Red waving - full course caution, drivers will re-group with Race Director for a re-start of the race.
Yellow – warn racers of a hazard on the track.  Racers should slow down and not pass to advance position under yellow.  For oval track races, a yellow flag means it will be a full course restart.  Racers should follow direction of race officials.
Blue/Yellow or Orange – alerts racer that the leaders are approaching and will be overtaking the racer within the next lap.  Racer should not alter their driving line as faster traffic will determine the best way to pass.
Red – all racers must slow (w/ hand raised) & safely stop on the track as there’s a racer needing immediate attention.
Rolled Black – used as a warning to racer by track officials.  Racer does not need to exit track.  This will be shown to a racer one (1) time per event.  If rough driving continues, then a waving black flag will be given.
Black – given to racer if there’s a hazard condition with their kart and racer should exit track (with hand raised) to repair equipment.  Also given as final penalty flag for rough or unsportsmanlike driving.
Green & Yellow flags crossed – signals racers ½ way is complete
Rolled White & Rolled Checkered – signals racers 2 laps remaining
White – 1 lap remaining
Checkered – end of race

7. REGISTRATION/DRIVER’S MEETING
Registration will close at the start of qualifying and no changes to classes will be made.
A formal driver’s meeting will be held prior to practice.  All minor racers (under 18) must have an adult present at the meeting.  Attendance at the meeting is mandatory.

8. COMPETITOR PERFORMANCE
Unnecessary rough driving, bumping, blocking or otherwise foul driving will subject the driver to disqualification.  The Race Director’s decision is final.
Deliberately driving all four (4) wheels off the track to improve your position will result in a penalty.  If the action was not taken to avoid an emergency situation, you will be scored one (1) lap down for each occurrence.  If you inadvertently leave the track with all four (4) wheels, you must re-enter the race safely and without advancing your position.
Per WKA tire rules, no prepping of tires or use of tire warmers is allowed.  Tires must be at ambient temperature.

9. GRID, & RACE LINEUP
Practice sessions will be timed to seed the order of drivers in qualifying.
Drivers will arrange themselves in the order set by the seeding.
Grid Steward will direct gridding and maintain orderly conduct in designated area.
Karts will get 2 warm-up laps for the feature & then be gridded on the track in their correct start position.
If the Flagman is not signaled by a driver, he will assume the field is race ready.

10. PROTESTS
All protests shall be submitted in writing to the Race Director within 30 minutes after the given competition.  The Race Director’s decision shall be final.
The Race Director or his designated representative reserves the right to a post-race inspection and engine teardown that meets WKA Competition Regulations.
Only a participant who finishes in the winner’s circle can be subject to an engine protest which requires a tear down.  The winner’s circle will consist of the top five (5) finishers in each class.  An engine protest can only be made by a finisher within the winner’s circle.  Anyone finishing 6th or back cannot file an engine protest.  A protest fee of $125.00 will be provided by the protester.  If the engine is determined to be legal, $100.00 of the protest fee shall be awarded to the engine owner.  If the engine is illegal, $100.00 of the protest fee shall be returned to the protester.  The tech inspector will receive $25.00 for his time.
Random and unannounced tech inspection may occur.  Racers will be notified at scale and will immediately proceed to tech area.
